We have added the National Green Tribunal to the eCourtsIndia index. Environmental litigation now sits alongside the Supreme Court, the High Courts, the district courts and the tribunals you could already search. This is the latest step in a series of tribunal additions. We have been working through India’s specialist forum map one court at a time, from the company law benches in our NCLT and NCLAT launch to the newest tax forum in our GSTAT launch. What the National Green Tribunal is

The National Green Tribunal is India’s specialist environmental court, set up to decide disputes about the environment and to award compensation for environmental damage, quickly and by expert members. It was created under the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010, and it handles cases relating to the enforcement of environmental laws, including matters under the Water Act, the Air Act and the Environment Protection Act. It is not an ordinary civil court. Its benches pair judicial members with expert members who understand the science, and it is meant to move faster than the regular courts.

To check an NGT case status, open eCourtsIndia search, filter to the right bench using its court code, then search by the party name or the CNR. There are three reliable routes, depending on what you already know.

1. By party name. If you know the applicant or the respondent, type the name into the free text box and add the bench filter. The index matches names on both sides, so it works whether you are looking for a citizen or NGO who filed the case or an industry or pollution control board named as respondent. To trace one company or authority across every bench at once, drop the bench filter and search the name alone.

2. By CNR. Every NGT matter carries a 16 character CNR that never changes, even if the case is renumbered. An NGT CNR begins with the bench code, followed by the case type letters, the running number and the year. Paste the CNR into the search and you land on that exact case.
