To enable case alerts on eCourtsIndia, open your case from ecourtsindia.com/search, scroll to the Case Alerts panel and click Enable alerts, then map the case to a client and choose Directly representing or Tracking only. From that moment eCourtsIndia watches the case for you and sends a WhatsApp and email alert whenever there is a new order, a new hearing date or a fresh IA filing. Viewing a case is free; delivered alerts run on a small wallet balance. The whole setup takes under a minute and works for any case in India, from the Supreme Court to the smallest district or taluka court.
If you have a case in court, you know the quiet dread of not knowing what is happening. Did the hearing date move? Was an order passed while you were not looking? Has an application been filed on the other side? For years the only answers were to call your advocate, visit the court, or refresh the government portal and fight a CAPTCHA. Case alerts remove all of that. You set them once, and the court comes to you. This guide is the foolproof version: watch the short video, then follow the steps and screenshots below.
Key takeaways
- Open your case, click Enable alerts, map it to a client, and you are done. Setup takes under a minute on ecourtsindia.com/search.
- Alerts arrive on WhatsApp and email, the moment the record changes, not in a once-a-day batch.
- An alert fires on a new order or judgment, a new hearing date, an IA (interim application) filing, a transfer, or a disposal.
- It works for any case in India: Supreme Court, 25 High Courts, 700+ district and taluka courts, and tribunals, across 28 crore+ (280 million+) records.
- Searching and viewing a case is free. Delivered alerts draw on your wallet credits (roughly half a credit per event), so keep a small balance topped up.
- Everything lives in one place: the AI Clerk, Clients and Notifications screens in your eCourtsIndia dashboard.
Watch: enable case alerts in under a minute

What a case alert actually is
A case alert is an automatic notification that tells you the instant something changes on a court case, sent to your WhatsApp and email so you never have to check the portal yourself. Instead of you visiting the court website to see if anything moved, eCourtsIndia keeps watching the case on the official court servers and pings you when a new order lands, a hearing date is set, or an application is filed. It is the difference between chasing information and having it delivered. If you are still doing this the manual way, our guide on tracking your court case online shows the before, and this guide shows the after.
What you need before you start
Three things, and only three.
- A free eCourtsIndia account. Sign in or register at ecourtsindia.com/auth/register. Alerts are tied to your account so they can reach your WhatsApp and email.
- The case you want to watch. You can find it by party name, by your 16-character CNR, or by case number. If you are not sure what a CNR is, read CNR Number Decoded first.
- A small wallet balance. Viewing case status is free. Delivered WhatsApp and email alerts use a few credits, so keep a little balance topped up from the Wallet screen. New accounts start with free credits to try it out.
Enable case alerts, step by step
To enable alerts, open the case on eCourtsIndia, click Enable alerts in the Case Alerts panel, assign the case to a client, choose how you are connected to it, and click Map Case. Here is each step in full.

Step 1: Find your case
Go to ecourtsindia.com/search and search. If you have your CNR, paste it in for a one-shot, exact result. If you do not, type your name or the other party’s name and pick your case from the list. For name searches, our Litigant Search guide and the full eCourtsIndia Search Guide show every filter you can use to zero in on the right matter. Click the case to open its case page.
Step 2: Open the Case Alerts panel
On the case page, look to the right for the Case Alerts box. It reads “Stay informed of every update. We notify you when this case has a new order, hearing date, or IA filing.” Click the blue Enable alerts button.

Step 3: Assign the case to a client
A window titled Map to Client opens. Pick an existing client from the dropdown, or click Add your first client and enter a name. Only the full legal name is required; email, phone and notes are optional. If you are a litigant tracking your own matter, simply use your own name as the client. If you are an advocate or a firm, add the client this case belongs to. This is how eCourtsIndia keeps a hundred matters neatly organised instead of one long undifferentiated list.

Step 4: Choose how you track it, then Map Case
Pick a Case relationship. Choose Directly representing if you are the party or the primary counsel, or Tracking only if you are watching the case for reference, such as a journalist, a researcher, or opposing-interest monitoring. You can add an optional note for the AI Clerk (for example, “focus on interim orders”). Click Map Case. Past orders are imported automatically, and the case starts being watched from that moment.
Step 5: Keep a small wallet balance so alerts can send
Delivered alerts on WhatsApp and email use a few wallet credits (about half a credit per event). Open Wallet in your dashboard, check your balance, and click Add Credits or pick a plan if you are running low. If your balance ever hits zero, the alert is queued under a “No balance” state and sends once you top up, so you do not lose the event.

What triggers an alert
Once a case is mapped, eCourtsIndia watches it against the official court record and sends an alert on each of these events:
- A new order or judgment is uploaded, with a link to open it.
- A new hearing date is listed, so you can prepare or brief your client in time.
- An IA (interim application) is filed on the matter.
- The case is transferred to another court or judge.
- The case is disposed, dismissed, allowed or otherwise reaches a final status.
When you first map a case you also get a “tracking started” confirmation, so you know the watch is live. To understand the status words that show up in these alerts, keep our Case Status Dictionary handy.
Where your alerts arrive
Alerts are delivered to your WhatsApp and email, the two channels people actually check. Each message names the case and the court, states the event, and carries the CNR and the next hearing date. A new-order alert links straight to the order so you can read it in seconds. Every alert is also logged on the Notifications screen in your dashboard, where you can see what was sent, what failed and what is waiting on balance.

Manage your alerts and mapped cases
Open your dashboard and you will find three screens that run the whole system. AI Clerk (also shown as Clients) lists every client and the cases mapped under them, so you can see your whole book at a glance. Notifications is the running log of every alert, delivered or pending. Wallet holds your credit balance and plans. This is the same monitoring engine that powers the AI Clerk, the assistant that watches your court every day. Power users who want to enable and check alerts from inside Claude or ChatGPT can also do it through the connector: see how to connect the eCourtsIndia MCP.
Case alerts vs the manual and government options
There is more than one way to keep up with a case. Here is how they compare on the things that matter: whether you get pushed updates at all, on which channel, and at what effort.
| Method | Effort | Automatic alerts | Channels | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manual portal check | Check daily, solve a CAPTCHA each time | None, you must remember | None | Free |
| Govt SMS Pull / Email My Case Status | Send an SMS or register an email per case | Basic email updates or pull-on-demand SMS | SMS or email | Free / carrier SMS cost |
| eCourtsIndia Case Alerts | Set once, then nothing | Yes, on every event | WhatsApp and email | Free to view; small credits to deliver |
The official government options, and their limits
Fair is fair: the government portal does offer some tracking. The e-Committee of the Supreme Court runs an Email My Case Status service that mails you updates on a followed case, and an SMS Pull service where you text your CNR to 9766899899 and get the current status back by reply SMS. Many district courts also list an SMS alert service. These are useful and free, and worth knowing about. Their limits are practical: pull-SMS is on-demand rather than pushed, email updates can be slow and easy to miss, and none of them give you a single dashboard across every court with WhatsApp delivery, order links and client organisation. eCourtsIndia sits on top of the same public court data and turns it into a modern, pushed alert. For the wider picture of checking status the official way, see our guide on how to check court case status online in India.
Who this helps
Litigants get peace of mind. Map your own case, and the next hearing date and any order reach your phone without you asking. No more calling the office to check. Advocates get a listing safety net. Map every matter, and a changed date or a fresh order pings you before it becomes a missed hearing. Pair alerts with the daily cause list to confirm your board each morning.
Law firms and in-house teams get portfolio visibility. Map cases under each client, and the whole book is watched at once, with a weekly rhythm instead of a dozen open portals. Our litigation portfolio monitoring playbook and the one advocate, nine courts guide go deeper. Journalists, researchers and the public can use Tracking only to watch a case of public interest and get alerted the moment a judgment lands, without being a party to it.
Troubleshooting, so it is truly foolproof
- No alert arrived. Open Notifications and check the status. If it says No balance, top up your Wallet and the queued alert will send. Confirm your email and WhatsApp number are correct in your profile.
- You cannot find the case to map. Try the party name instead of the number, or the CNR instead of the name. Very recent filings can take a day or two to index. The Search Guide covers every filter.
- You mapped it to the wrong client. Open the case under AI Clerk and reassign it, or map it again to the correct client.
- The case is already disposed. You can still map it. You will get alerts if anything further is recorded, such as a review or an execution step.
Set it once, then stop checking
The best part of case alerts is how little you have to do after the first minute. Find the case, click Enable alerts, map it to a client, keep a small balance, and you are finished. From then on the court comes to you, on WhatsApp and on email, for every order, every date and every filing. Open ecourtsindia.com/search, pull up your case, and switch alerts on now.
Stop refreshing the portal. Map the case once, and let the next hearing date find you.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I enable case alerts for my court case in India?
Open your case on eCourtsIndia by party name, CNR or case number, scroll to the Case Alerts panel, and click Enable alerts. Assign the case to a client (use your own name if you are the litigant), choose Directly representing or Tracking only, and click Map Case. Alerts then start on WhatsApp and email. The whole thing takes under a minute.
How will I receive the case alerts?
Alerts are delivered to your WhatsApp and email as soon as the court record changes. Each message names the case and court, states the event, and carries the CNR and next hearing date, with a link to any new order. Every alert is also logged on the Notifications screen in your dashboard so you have a full history.
What events trigger a case alert?
An alert fires when a new order or judgment is uploaded, a new hearing date is listed, an interim application (IA) is filed, the case is transferred, or the case is disposed. You also get a confirmation when tracking starts. The words used in these alerts are explained in our Case Status Dictionary.
Do case alerts cost money?
Searching for a case and viewing its status, hearing dates and orders on eCourtsIndia is free. Delivered alerts on WhatsApp and email use a small number of wallet credits, about half a credit per event, so you keep a small balance topped up from the Wallet screen. New accounts start with free credits to try it out.
Can I set alerts without a CNR number?
Yes. Search by your party name or the other side’s name on eCourtsIndia, open the correct case from the results, and enable alerts from there. A CNR makes the lookup instant, but it is not required. If you are unsure what a CNR is, read CNR Number Decoded.
Can advocates and law firms track many clients’ cases?
Yes. Map each case to the client it belongs to, and every matter is watched at once. The AI Clerk and Clients screens organise cases by client, and Notifications logs every alert across the whole book. For a deeper workflow, see our litigation portfolio monitoring playbook.
