Every court in India publishes a daily cause list: a document that shows which cases are scheduled to be heard on a given day, in which courtroom, and before which judge. For lawyers who appear in multiple courts and litigants who need to know when to show up, the cause list is essential.
The problem has always been accessing it. Government eCourts websites are slow and clunky. Many courts publish cause lists as hard-to-search PDFs. Finding your specific case in a list of hundreds requires scrolling through page after page.
eCourtsIndia’s Cause List feature solves all of this. It gives you searchable, real-time cause lists for courts across India, with the ability to search by lawyer name, litigant name, or judge name.
How the Cause List Page Works
Go to ecourtsindia.com/causelist. The page opens with a national directory showing all 37 states and union territories, each with their state code.
The process is hierarchical: select a state, then a district, then a court complex, and you get the cause list for that specific court on the selected date.
Step-by-Step: Finding Your Hearing
- Select your state from the grid (for example, Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka)
- Select the district (for High Courts, this will typically be “HC”)
- Select the court complex (for example, “Tis Hazari Court Complex” or “Dwarka Court Complex”)
- Choose a date to see that day’s cause list
- Search within the cause list using the search bar to find your specific case

Four Ways to Search the Cause List
At the top of the cause list page, you will notice four tabs: All, Lawyer, Litigant, and Judge. These let you search the cause list from different perspectives.
Search by Lawyer Name
Click the “Lawyer” tab and type the advocate’s name. This instantly shows all cases listed for hearing that day where this advocate is on record. Perfect for lawyers who need to see their entire day’s schedule at a glance across all courtrooms.
Search by Litigant Name
Click the “Litigant” tab and type a party name. This is ideal for litigants who want to confirm that their case is listed for hearing on a particular date. You do not need to know the case number or your lawyer’s schedule. Just type your name and see if your case appears.
Search by Judge Name
Click the “Judge” tab and type the judge’s name. This shows you every case being heard by that judge on that day. Useful when you know the judge’s name but not the courtroom number.
Search All (Free Text)
The “All” tab lets you search across everything: case numbers, party names, advocate names, and more. Use this when you are not sure which field your search term falls under.
What the Cause List Tells You
Each entry in the cause list typically includes:
- Case number and type
- Party names (petitioner vs. respondent)
- Advocate names for both sides
- Courtroom number where the case will be heard
- Judge name assigned to the courtroom
- Serial number in the board (which tells you roughly when your case will come up for hearing)
The courtroom number is especially important for litigants attending court in person. Indian court complexes can be large and confusing, and knowing the exact courtroom saves time and anxiety.

Recent Complexes: Quick Access
On the right side of the cause list page, you will see a “Recent Complexes” section. This shows court complexes you have recently viewed, so you can quickly jump back to your regular courts without navigating the full state-district-complex hierarchy each time.
Practical Use Cases
For Lawyers: Plan Your Day
Check the cause list the evening before or early morning. Use the Lawyer tab to see all your cases listed for the day. Note the courtroom numbers for each. Plan your route through the court complex. If you have cases in multiple courts on the same day, check the serial numbers to estimate timing.
For Litigants: Confirm Your Hearing
Your lawyer says your hearing is tomorrow. Verify it yourself by checking the cause list on eCourtsIndia. Search by your name under the Litigant tab. If your case appears, you know the hearing is confirmed. If it does not, reach out to your lawyer for clarification before making the trip to court.
For Researchers: Track Court Activity
The cause list is a window into court activity. You can see how many cases a particular court complex handles on any given day, how cases are distributed across courtrooms, and how the workload varies between dates.
